Timeline [First Idea and research]

I firstly did not have any idea what am I going to make. So, as usual, I drew a spider map and found some keywords such as calendar, lunar, solar, Asia, Common, and South Korea.

When I saw the keywords lunar and calendar, the experience what I felt inconvenient came into my mind. I drew a storyboard about what I and my family experience every year. It was about my grand father's birthday. Our family celebrates his birthday on his lunar calendar date and every year we need to calculate when is his birthday. I sometimes use the Internet to know the lunar calendar date. But my parents have not tried to search since they are used to calculate by themselves. So I chose to make the lunar calendar clock.

After that, I started to think about who would be the user. I firstly set the user as Asian people because most Asian use lunar calendar and I thought they probably feel uncomfortable using the lunar calendar. I surveyed 93 Koreans.

Question was
1. Tick your age group
2. Is there anyone who uses the lunar calendar for celebrating a birthday?
3. Which age bracket are they?
4. When do you use the lunar calendar?
5. How do you calculate and check the lunar calendar?

The survey showed that many Koreans are still using the lunar calendar for celebrating a birthday. People who use lunar birthday are mostly over 40. However, people of all ages use the lunar calendar on public holidays, anniversary and other purposes. When people check the date of the lunar calendar, about 37% of those use the Internet and more than half calculate the date.

After the first research and presentation, I found some problems so I changed ideas and users.

PROBLEMS : 1. User
                       -> Chinese almost always use the lunar calendar so they do not need to calculate.  So Asian people as the user are not proper.
                   2. Hard to calculate and express 'INTERCALATION' with my capability
                       -> Because the lunar calendar is needed for intercalation to adjust the gap with days of the solar calendar. Intercalation is not regular like solar intercalation ( 29th February ). For example, there is intercalation on April 2020, February 2023, June 2025, May 2028 between 10 years from 2020. Moreover, intercalation could be 29 days or 30 days.
