Timeline [Experiment#2]

2. When I saw the Maarten Baas's clock, I thought it was real and performance artwork, not the video. On the contrary, I thought it would be interesting if I use the real plant. However, it should be placed four drums with 7 days clock because there are different conditions for the plant in each four phases. 

I wanted to insert the video of plants but it was hard to find growing plant video with a clear or white background. So I was finding for replacement instead of showing real video but still looks like video. The picture/painting could be a good material and I came up with a moving picture/painting such as moving portrait in film Harry Potter.

I used two programme, Photoshop and After Effects. Firstly, I searched for the painting related to "lettuce/tomato" which are good for planting on first quarter moon (When I did experiment, I made new moon phase only). The picture is "The family garden” by Walt Curlee.

In order to make the woman move, I needed two distinct images which were the picture of just the woman and the picture of original without the woman. I used patch and stamp tool to erase the woman.

At first, I extract the image of the woman with the shadow of scythe(number 1.) but when I make the video, it was not smooth. After that, I erase all shadow(number 2.) and I put the shadow of the woman at final(number 3.).

The first picture is the background when I use number2. The second picture is for number1. and number3.

I wanted to make using this idea and skills before thinking of the users.
I suddenly think about the user and those were
- Can the user read and recognize the clock? Even though the clock-hand is physical or even digital, the background colours in the painting are various and strong. How can I show time movement?
- How can the user check the moon if the weather is bad to see the moon?
